Department of Morbid Anatomy at UNTH released a list of over 100 unclaimed bodies reportedly lying in the mortuary of UNTH.
Just pause and think about the reason behind this for a moment. π
our burial culture
When someone dies, the family is faced with funeral expenses, burial levies, elaborate ceremonies, expectations from relatives and the pressure to βdo the right thingβ according to society.
And the body remains in the mortuary.
We need to have an honest conversation about how we approach death and burial in our society.
I'm not saying we should abolish our traditions. I'm just saying that, a dignified burial should not require a family to become financially ruined.
We can honour our dead without competing over who throws the biggest funeral.
Maybe it is time we stopped measuring love by the amount of money spent after someone dies.
Life is already expensive.
Death shouldn't have to bankrupt the living. ποΈ
