@keithlaw@TheAthletic Do you think teams take into account the existing profile of the players in their system when deciding on their 1st round pick. Astros have substantial swing and miss up and down their system so bringing in Lebron seems like more of the same (even with the “upside”).
@ZackScottSports@enosarris Not saying you’re math is wrong but the conclusion might not be as precise as the claim as it is also true that:
2021-2025 top 10 payrolls only 5 out of 50 with a losing record total;
bottom 10 payrolls 36 out of 50 with losing records
Seems pretty strong to me 🤷♂️
@KevinOConnor@YahooSports A rule to stop tanking shouldn’t apply if the team in question can’t tank in a given season because they don’t own their own pick
@KevinOConnor@YahooSports the streak should be tolled and only apply to a team’s own pick
For example if WAS picked 1st in 26 but didn’t have their own pick in 27 the streak doesn’t apply to the WAS 27 pick since applying it has no tanking disincentive but the streak would carry over to WAS’s next 1st
@michaelschwab13 Biggest unforced error in modern MLB front office history. Has been straight downhill since Crane and Bagwell (and their egos) forced him out
@SherwoodStrauss In fairness too though it’s easier to be a defensive stopper when you’re asked to carry such a low burden on offense. Not discounting Draymond but it’s just different when you are also the focus of the offense. Makes MJ, LeBron, Olajuwon, etc even more impressive
@Chandler_Rome you said Dana Brown was good at running drafts but I’m not sure what evidence there is of that in his time with HOU. Bottom 3 farm system after 3 years here and his first 2 drafts not exactly HRs (Matthews, Treadwell, Janek, Fisher, etc.)
