For those hitting the ocean and waves this summer.
This is really simple. You can spot a rip current. Unfortunately, it's where it looks easiest and safest to enter the sea. This is because the rip current is looping around and pulling back OUT. Hence no waves rolling IN. NEVER ENTER THE SEA HERE. If you are already in the sea and get caught in a rip current (you'll know because you will suddenly be moved from your location and it will be impossible to swim against it) don't panic. Swim ACROSS, not against the rip current. For example, rather than trying to swim to shore while being pushed out, swim parallel to the beach and you will be able to get out. Then you can swim ashore. Please educate friends or family visiting the beaches this summer. Stay safe 🙏🛟🏖️
Here is my real issue with many of these TikTok-y tax strategies: Many have a grain of truth to them (see: hiring your kids) but the real work needed by ordinary taxpayers to ensure compliance often exceeds the "win."
Don't chase a #tax benefit, chase a sound financial decision.
Big tax news! D.C. Circuit Court (5/3/24) overturned Tax Court’s ruling (4/3/23) in Farhy, which means IRS has authority to assess and collect penalties if taxpayer fails to file a foreign information return. This could be headed to the Supreme Court!

Remember this piece on gray divorce from earlier this year?
I wrote it after Gerry Turner & Theresa Nist from The Golden Bachelor tied the knot.
Today, they announced they are divorcing, so the advice (including a prenup) feels particularly fresh.

@taxgirl A few lawyers try to. A client engaged me to update her trust documents. Her original documents were prepared by an attorney in Nevada. She has always lived in Texas, never in Nevada, but a lawyer there drafted Texas documents for her. They were a mess.
I found a guy who goes around the US asking 70 to 100-year-olds their:
• Biggest Regrets
• Biggest Lessons
• Advice to their younger self
Oddly enough, most of their answers are the same…
Here are my top 8:
Here is a beautifully produced story on @CBSNews about childhood anxiety, phone addiction, and how the Let Grow Experience builds confidence and reduces anxiety.

This has been mucking up searches in the legal space with articles that misstate the law ranking ahead of articles state the law accurately. https://t.co/YhQcgc7Bf7
