This week, Jews celebrate the festival of Sukkot, a time that highlights the transient nature of life—symbolized by stepping out into the open and taking shelter in a structure of thatch.

It serves as a testament to and a remembrance of the protection provided by the Clouds of Glory, which God ordained to shield the Children of Israel in the wilderness.

During the seven days of the festival—in the era when the Temple stood—bulls representing the nations of the world were offered, and prayers were recited for the peace of those kingdoms.

During these festive days, we pray for the independence of nations and cherish the identities of indigenous peoples and their faiths; each person by his camp and each by his standard.

In the coming year, may the God of Heaven bestow His blessing upon the kingdoms of light and show compassion for the pure souls of their indigenous inhabitants.
