PRESS RELEASE
OYO STATE POLICE COMMAND COMMENCES STATEWIDE ENFORCEMENT ON VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION COMPLIANCE AND CRIME PREVENTION OPERATIONS
The Oyo State Police Command, in furtherance of its unwavering commitment to ensuring a safer and more secure environment and in line with ongoing efforts to rid the State of violent crime and other forms of criminality, has commenced a statewide enforcement operation targeting unmarked vehicular objects, fake and obscured number plates, as well as unauthorized covering of vehicle plates.
This enforcement action, which commenced yesterday, is aimed at ensuring strict compliance with lawful vehicle identification standards and enhancing overall public safety and security architecture within the State.
Accordingly, any person or persons found violating these directives will be promptly arrested, while such vehicles or motorcycles will be impounded in line with extant laws and operational procedures.
Furthermore, the Command will sustain intermittent stop-and-search operations, intelligence-led patrols, and coordinated raids of identified criminal blackspots across the State. There will also be increased police visibility and strategic deployment of personnel within key locations across urban and rural areas.
These measures are part of a broader security framework designed to deter criminal activities, enhance rapid response capabilities, and strengthen public confidence in policing operations.
Members of the public are therefore urged to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperative with Police personnel during the course of these operations, as these actions are strictly in the interest of public safety and security.
The Command appreciates the continued support and understanding of residents and assures that all operations will be conducted professionally, lawfully, and with due respect for human rights.

The shutdown of schools across the state is not a symbol of solidarity or protest.
It is a painful reminder of a deeper problem: the inability of government to guarantee the safety of lives and property. When children can no longer attend school because of fear, society must confront an uncomfortable truth, security has become uncertain, and confidence in public protection has been shaken.
This should be an awakening for every Nigerian.
For too long, governance has often taken a back seat to politics. Citizens are asked to celebrate projects, promises, and political victories while fundamental responsibilities such as security, education, and public welfare continue to face enormous challenges.
We take one step forward and then thousands backward.
The progress we celebrate is often visible and attractive, but the failures that threaten our future are buried within weak institutions, poor accountability, and systems that do not adequately protect the people they are meant to serve.
Today, children and teachers remain in captivity while families live through unimaginable anguish. Communities are gripped by fear. Parents are afraid to send their children to school. A state that has long enjoyed a reputation for relative peace now finds itself confronting insecurity in ways many never imagined.
This is not merely a tragedy for one local government.
It is not merely a tragedy for one state.
It is a warning to us all.
Every report of kidnapping, violence, and insecurity chips away at the confidence of ordinary citizens. Every attack on a school is an attack on our future. Every child living in fear is a reminder that development means little if people cannot live safely.
My heart bleeds for Oyo State.
It aches for the families waiting for their children and loved ones to return home.
And it continues to ache for Nigeria, a nation blessed with so much potential, yet repeatedly held back by problems we should have resolved long ago.
The children must be brought home.
The teachers must be brought home.
The safety of our people must become the highest priority.
Because no nation can truly prosper while its citizens live in fear.
