Build your relationships on something a little deeper than sex. Because a relationship built solely on intercourse is exactly like a newspaper. As soon as you finish reading it, it loses its fascination. And by tomorrow, it will be replaced with the latest edition. You are growing older. Others are younger than you. I keep thinking about the many layers to this 'Japa' thing.

Stumbled today on a FB post lamenting "the migration of our (best) talents and capital out of the (South) East into Lagos and elsewhere even in greater West Africa."

I've tweeted before about this phenomenon of "internal" Japa (which, by the way, happens in every country).

It was 'Japa' that took (and keeps taking) multitudes of young people to Lagos, from various cities around Nigeria. A lot of the young people I grew up with in Abeokuta and Ibadan moved, first to Lagos, and then possibly elsewhere.

Just as we agonise over how to make Nigeria more attractive for people to stay in and move to, similar conversations are happening—or have to happen—at subnational level about how to keep more talent "at home." That's where projects like the $80m Ekiti Knowledge Zone (EKZ) come in.

Another angle to the story is how to maximise the benefits derivable from those who have Japa'd. So that even if you can't immediately bring them back, you can at least ensure they're encouraged to contribute significantly to the local economies they left behind.
(This is where I'll mention, as an example, how impressed I am by how Jarus is always talking about Offa, traveling there, and now investing there).

On the subject of feminism, let me say that life is not fair. I wish life were fair and equal. But it is not. And that is a fact of life. If you want to hold anyone responsible, face God. Expecting life to be fair is foolishness. Men and women are not the same. A man enters. A woman receives. So, the impact on both genders is different.

For example, if too many visitors enter a house, it devalues that house over time. But it does not devalue the visitors. If too many riders ride a vessel, it degrades the vessel over time. But not the riders. That is why Scripture talks about the bride price of a virgin woman-Exodus 22:17. But Scripture says no such thing about men. I agree it is not fair. Therefore, be wise. Protect your value by avoiding visitors until a permanent resident is found for your house. I know it is not fair. But life is not fair!

Again, let me use another analogy to describe the unfairness of life. Take a driver. The more cars a driver has driven, the more that driver's value increases. An experienced driver is an asset. But the more drivers a car has had, the less its value as an asset. A highly used car is a liability. High mileage is good for the driver, but bad for the car. It is wicked. It is unfair. But it is also life. Inasmuch as that is how God decreed this life to be, men and women suffer different consequences for the same actions. Are we to question God or obey Him? That is why we should teach our daughters virtue and not allow them devalue themselves in the name of being woke!
