A lot of people have misinterpreted this IPOB slogan , Biafra or death and for clarity seek : The"Biafra or Death" slogan is a potent, extremely contentious slogan and mental belief system.
Enemies of Biafra restoration and those outside the struggle perceive the Biafra or death slogan as a provocation for violent rebellion, extreme secessionism, and ethnic animosity.

However , "Biafra or Death" does not necessarily imply the start of a traditional military conflict. Rather, it represents a dedication to relentless agitation , indicating that Biafrans will persistently agitate and champion for a referendum and autonomy, irrespective of imprisonment, Nigerian government repression, or life-threatening risks.

In IPOB's media, the slogan is presented as a protective measure. IPOB members are consistently saying that staying in Nigeria subjects the Biafra people to systemic marginalization, poverty, and violent insecurity, asserting that Biafrans encounter "death either way" if they do not separate from the contraption called Nigeria .

For generations, colonial education taught Africans to see their own history through the eyes of those who conquered them. Decolonising the curriculum means confronting that legacy and putting African voices, resistance and agency back at the centre.

Our history should not be written as though Africa began when Europe arrived.

This is more than changing words in a textbook. It is a struggle over memory, identity and who has the authority to tell Africa’s story.
