@DanBurmawy@hahussain Hey @NYCMayor perhaps this bothers you enough to speak out? Or do your ideas about “ethno religious states” only apply if we’re talking about Jews?
If you are a Jordanian Christian and convert to Islam, you can officially change your religion. However, if you are a Muslim and convert to Christianity:
Article 142 of the Jordanian constitution: (effect of apostasy on the marriage contract):
If the apostasy of one of the spouses is proven:
• If before consummation, the judge annuls the marriage from the date of the apostasy.
• If after consummation and the apostate insists and refuses to return to Islam, the judge annuls the marriage.
Article 281 (inheritance):
Only a Muslim inherits from another Muslim.
An apostate is deprived of inheritance rights from Muslim relatives.
Article 171 on custody: an apostate is ineligible for custody.
Christians and Muslims in Jordan don't have equal rights, because Islam according to the constitution is the religion of the state. The concept of citizenship simoly doesn't exist.
@Nadav_Eyal Just wait until he gets into that car and tries to drive somewhere. The traffic and disrespect for basic rules of the road, unhinged and dangerous aggression…truly feels like a 3rd world country.
@ABC One government and population proudly proclaims and seeks your friendship. Another organizes mass demonstrations and sloganeers for your death. And yet he confuses the two. He must be a wonderful person to be friends with…
@ElliotKaufman6 Might not matter…There’s bipartisan momentum to cut aid, and in Europe, impose sanctions. The sanctions in particular can cripple Israeli economy…likely outcomes unless a new government vigorously fights unhinged settlers and engages diplomatically.
@ElliotMalin@Mr_Andrew_Fox The only way to make sense of Gaza genocide claim is to contextualize it thusly. If Zionism is inherently genocidal to Palestinians, then Gaza is just another brick in the wall. Sadly it’s why disproof of the Gaza claim makes 0 impact on these loons. Shifting goalposts, always.
@mattyglesias@mattyglesias who am I quoting: “When the NYPDs boot is on your neck, it’s been laced by the IDF.”
Mamdani himself has made this connection. Chickens coming home to roost.
@sentdefender I wouldn’t exactly say that Israel is engaged in “expansionist activity”… “which has prompted Iran…”
Israel’s occupation of each arena should be analyzed separately. Iran uses it as a foil tactic in negotiations and as leverage over Israel via America.
Shocking poll results of the Shia community in Lebanon. If the survey was not conducted by a reputable company, Statistics Lebanon, I would have dismissed it because the results show a truly stunning collapse of support for Hezbollah among the Shia community. This collapse is an undeniable fact based on my conversations with Shia friends in Lebanon, following social media production by Shia (including videos and thousands of comments on popular Facebook pages for Shia communities), and the testimonies of Shia journalists and scholars. Still, the numbers are surprising.
The most shocking results:
- 42% of Shia feel disappointed, angry or worried about the conduct of the leadership of Hezbollah
- 37% trust in Hezbollah greatly, 22.4% trust to some extent, 23.6% do not trust Hezbollah much, 15% do not trust Hezbollah at all. Previously 85% expressed trust in Hezbollah
- 52% do not trust Hezbollah's social & service institutions (likely due to favoritism in distribution)
- 52.4% do not trust the media outlets affiliated with Hezbollah.
- Only 2% would prefer to send their children to schools run by Hezbollah (Mehdi and Mustafa schools)
- 42.3% believe Hezbollah has not achieved any of its goals and that the costs of the war were exceedingly high
25% believe Hezbollah achieved only part of its goals and the costs of the war were exceedingly high. A total of 67.4% put together.
14% say it's too early to tell
- 63.3% support a deal with Israel (either direct talks, through mediation, or a total regional agreement)
- 9% support a deal that will be sponsored by Iran
- 66.4% support handing over Hezbollah's weapons to the state
29.6% support preserving Hezbollah's weapons
- 51.1% see he Lebanese Army as the biggest contributor to guaranteeing security in the long run
16.5% see Hezbollah this way
- 71% Believe war & peace decisions should only be made by Lebanon's leadership
12% Support Hezbollah making its own decisions on these matters
- Only 5% believe using force is legitimate to express opposition to the government's position on disarming Hezbollah
- 80% see their Lebanese identity as more important than their sectarian or partisan affiliation

No, but again not for any particular ideological position, I share Anshel Pfeffer's view that "Zionism" is something that already happened in 1948. I do not think trying to reverse history is a sensible political position.
But by that same token, I don't think all anti-Zionists even agree on a definition, and I think some 2SS supporters refer to themselves as anti-Zionists.
The whole argument of definitions is a mess and I have no interest in playing along with it. I support a just peace between both people, if that happens to be a binational state, so be it, if that happens to be two states, so be it.
I don't think that makes me either a Zionist or an anti-Zionist. I am not morally for or against one over the other. I would happily accept either solution as long as it was the consensus view following settlement negotiations. And once again, I know this is not a satisfying answer for people, but it is an honest one.
@OzKaterji I think she has entered the spiral. No doubt she is the target of relentless online bullying and harassment, which lends itself to paranoid and delusional thinking. Not defending anything she’s said, but not surprising that tendencies and biases worsen in that situation.
