People don't actually want advice. They already know what they should be doing. They want someone to listen and support them.
Here's how to stop giving unsolicited advice:
A brave woman in Afghanistan, with a child in her hand, writes “Education, Work, Freedom” on a wall. Women are now using graffiti as a form of protest.
We MUST NOT forget the women of Afghanistan. They need us now more then ever. Be their voice!
35 years ago today, Thomas Sankara, the revolutionary leader of Burkina Faso, was assassinated in a French-backed coup. He aspired to an egalitarian, feminist society, and an economy built on self-sufficiency, ecological regeneration, and independence from Western powers.
Yesterday, the People’s Tribunal at The Hague found the government of Sri Lanka guilty of my father Lasantha Wickrematunge’s murder. The People’s tribunal has achieved justice for my father which the government of Sri Lanka failed to do in 13 years.
The tragedy in Pakistan is a stark reminder of climate injustice. The top map shows which nations are most responsible for excess emissions. The bottom map shows which nations are most impacted by it. Climate breakdown is playing out along colonial lines.
A group of 80 local & international #feminists & 7 orgs, call on the Government of #SriLanka to Stop Labeling Student Protestors & Activists as #Terrorists!

Congratulations to Member of LM, Attorney-at-Law & our dearest comrade, Swasthika Arulingam, who has done us proud again, by being appointed as the first ever woman President of the Commercial & Industrial Workers’ Union, as the CIWU celebrates its 45th Anniversary this year✊🏾
3/For this, you must begin by not centering yourself. There is no need to compare to show empathy or solidarity. Ppl, such as families of disappeared are rarely seen or heard, so, at least on days of importance to them, let it be about them and not about you or how you feel.
Kattankandy Mosque Massacre
#OnThisDay (3 Aug 1990), 147 worshippers were massacred by the LTTE at two different mosques in Kattankandy, Batticoloa. Disguised as Muslim worshippers themselves, 30 perpetrators attacked the over 300 people, spraying gunfire.

Actual decolonization means, at minimum, Sinhala divestment from racialized politics: as long as it remains the primary driver of Sinhala political culture, as the majority population, Rajapaksas and SLPP-type fascist parties are the entirely natural outcome.
Rtd. Maj. Gen. Kamal Gunaratne, former commander of 53 Division of #SriLanka Army accused of committing alleged war crimes, has been re-appointed as Secretary to the Ministry of Defence by new president @RW_UNP.
For those who are not aware of his alleged war crimes record, and for those in Colombo who are realising that "the military might have surely committed war crimes", here is the unofficial CV of Major General Gunaratne

The BASL condemns the attack by the forces on protestors. It is a black day for the country. The attacks happen on the first day in office of the new President. Shame!!
Dumb, majoritarian response. @sajithpremadasa's solution is even worse than the not-fully-implemented 13th Amendment. The Southern political class continues to fail to accept the demands for federalism coming from the North-East.
Looking at existing Environmental and Climate Justice syllabi that barely feature scholars, activists, and communities of color. So I've given myself the (VERY easy) task of writing a syllabus that features almost exclusively writers of color. Feel free to share readings here!
#RajapaksaRanilGoHome
Unpopular take/harsh truths:
If Rajapaksas remain in Sri Lanka they will cause instability. If they’re arrested, they will likely become martyrs/heroes in a while. Chances of bringing them to justice in Sri Lanka are slim. The chances are better abroad.
