RAtchinsonOT

[Somia Jan @SomiaOT]

thank you to everyone who got involved tonight! You've been great #OTshu

[RAtchinsonOT @RAtchinsonOT]

@SomiaOT @colemanshu1 @EmilyLucasot @Cmondhlani @FionaStirland this can be a good talking point and help to build a better rapport #OTshu

[RAtchinsonOT @RAtchinsonOT]

@OT_DSW I agree with this, I didn't either #OTshu

[RAtchinsonOT @RAtchinsonOT]

@FionaStirland @EmilyLucasot Hmm so why would OT not receive the same funding as other healthcare courses? #OTshu

[RAtchinsonOT @RAtchinsonOT]

@EmilyLucasot @FionaStirland also OT (especially at shu) is a smaller cohort than other cohorts. So this could impact #OTshu

[Fiona Madin @FionaStirland]

Could it be down to negative views of OT? e.g. Nicknames like 'basket weaver' Lack of knowledge of OT runs deep #otshu

[RAtchinsonOT @RAtchinsonOT]

@RRenable So at other universities did you see more cultural diversity? #OTshu

[RAtchinsonOT @RAtchinsonOT]

@colemanshu1 That was within the UK

[RAtchinsonOT @RAtchinsonOT]

I wonder with more cultural awareness if this figure would raise #OTshu

[RAtchinsonOT @RAtchinsonOT]

I have seen research that States Muslims are less likely to receive OT services #OTshu

[RAtchinsonOT @RAtchinsonOT]

@EmilyLucasot do you think this is nationwide or just in sheffield?? #OTshu

[RAtchinsonOT @RAtchinsonOT]

@colemanshu1 @SomiaOT @shirlmasterson Maybe we need to be more mindful of this when we have our open days #OTshu

[RAtchinsonOT @RAtchinsonOT]

@shirlmasterson @SomiaOT I think as OT isn't that well known that can be why. But maybe OT needs to be explain in schools etc #OTshu

[Shirley Masterson-Ng @shirlmasterson]

@SomiaOT @RAtchinsonOT I hope we encourage diversity at SHU OT but have not seen enough BME applicants to interview- need to do more #otshu

[RAtchinsonOT @RAtchinsonOT]

@ewOT2013 @SomiaOT this is very true, there is still a stigma attached to OT in some areas #OTshu

[RAtchinsonOT @RAtchinsonOT]

@SomiaOT if there is a cultural barrier. An OT and SU with same cultural background may great a better rapport than those who do not #Otshu

[RAtchinsonOT @RAtchinsonOT]

@SomiaOT I feel that more cultural diversity is needed as it helps with breaking barriers with different service users #Otshu

[RAtchinsonOT @RAtchinsonOT]

@SomiaOT I think OT may not be as diverse as other professions as it isn't as well known as say nurses/physio's #OTshu

[Somia Jan @SomiaOT]

Don't forget to join in our #OTshu chat tomorrow from 7PM!

[RAtchinsonOT @RAtchinsonOT]

OT's will also work along side SW as they work with SU daily and set up a support plan to ensure the treatment continues #OTShu
