last time I had a bday party was when I turned 22. it was my first bday party ever and I was so nervous. I invited these girls who were friends of a friend and they came, made this mean spirited tiktok, and left. I saw it the next day and cried my eyes out lmao
Mary isn't meant to be a particularly good person in backrooms! I do think that Parsons did a not great job of expanding on Kate and spending time with her, but the movie intends to confront Mary with her perception of herself as a savior
White woman therapist plays damsel in distress and moral compass in a film that has her telling her angry verbally abusive alcoholic Black man client — who has no redeeming qualities — that his white wife left him because all he does his whine. She says she — a psychiatrist — can’t help him. He’s wired like that.
She then gets chased by a large caricatured, exaggerated version of angry Black man that threatens to end her life.
CLEAR THE SEARCHES NIKKI FREEMAN IS NOT GOING TO JAIL SHE IS GOING TO WRITE A BOOK ABOUT EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENED TO HER AND IT’LL BE A MAJOR HIT THAT’LL MAKE THE WHOLE WORLD HUNT FOR ONE WISH WILLOWS AND THAT’S HOW WE GET THE OBSESSION MULTIVERSE
@izzykento EXACTLYYYY, he doesn't even know what "acting more like Nikki" means, he's simultaneously abusing the real Nikki while also abusing this logical realization of his fantasy who is searching for how to be a woman that the source of her existence doesn't even know or care about.
"he didn't know the wish was gonna work" ok true but he continually made decisions that reinforced that he WOULD have made the decision to eliminate Nikki's autonomy to the extent that it didn't inconvenience him
I don’t think he was ever a victim. I’d argue he was the villain from jump but most specifically, the moment he made the wish. You don’t wish for someone else to love u without removing their consent, autonomy and free will. That’s villain behavior.
@blakethinks@britthepony@cinemattie rather than a demon-possessed woman, because the former is reflective of the limerence and fetishization that Bear projects onto Nikki. the allegory wouldn't make sense if she was just a demon, because it takes away from Bear's misogyny and overfocuses on the supernatural aspect
@blakethinks@britthepony@cinemattie I'm not trying to be mean at all, but did you watch Obsession? It is almost *too* obvious with how much they beat you over the head trying to tell you that Nikki is the victim and Bear is the abuser. Barker said that he wanted Navarrette to play a crazy, jealous girlfriend (cont)
@britthepony@cinemattie@blakethinks how do you reconcile this take with the scene where Ian explicitly tells Bear that he is exploiting Nikki because of her altered state of mind
@groovybmovie there is a scene where Bear's friend directly tells him that he's taking advantage of her because she's clearly in an altered state of mind, I feel like the movie is very explicit about the fact that Bear's cowardice is invalid.
Israel has arrested two Palestinian women’s national team players, Natalie Abu Dayyeh & Rand Al Halawini. The Palestine FA described it as part of the systematic targeting of their athletes.
Will the same media who were concerned about Iran’s women footballers say anything now?
