I've spent years working on this and it really comes down to this:

why do we keep doing superfluous rework instead of pushing the boundaries of knowledge

Human rights issues are not complex; they revolve around the question of whether a group of people is seen to be less human than the others.
There are many ways to dehumanize people, but denying them access to a dignified existence in the society is one of most glaring ones.
we don’t need new clothes and shoes every 5-10 business days. we don’t need new phones every year. we don’t need EVs when investing in public transit is right there. we don’t our packages to come in two days. we don’t need these things, esp bc the cost for it is too high
The stay at home orders at the beginning of the pandemic were the first time many people had slowed down in years. It showcased the importance of community & caring for others over capitalism. And those in power did not like it.
The bit about reading faster than people can talk hits home for me. Listening to video (or audiobooks or podcasts) is like processing information in slow motion.
Also, we should talk about how people tend to trust video more, and how that’s messing with critical thinking.

The fact that a farmers strike against forced eviction happened, turned violent and yet didn’t gain national attention today, says a lot about how much we overlook the importance of farmers’ rights and their role in food security. This is a national issue, not just theirs.
