@AdobeCare Thanks. I had tried to install XD on new, case-insensitive volume, but it looks like the installer requires the boot (system?) volume to be case-insensitive.
@Adobe How do I choose a different volume? In 7+ years of questions asked about this all over the Internet still no answer? At least @TableauSupport offered a work-around where I can specify a case-insensitive volume.
