We commend President Trump for addressing the abuse of the H-1B system, where Indian immigrant workers are too often exploited for cheap labor by unscrupulous employers. Our concern, however, is for those who are already here, individuals who have built lives in the United States, purchased homes, paid taxes, and are raising children, many of whom are U.S. citizens. It is vital that this proclamation not be applied in a way that forces law-abiding, skilled immigrants and their families into deportation. While I support parole-in-place for spouses of U.S. citizens -- doing this without providing the same relief for people with approved I-140s who are stuck in the EB green card backlog and cannot apply for adjustment of status (who now are not just Indians) would be incredibly unjust.
