Today, I joined fellow concerned citizens at a press conference to demand that the four-laning of the Rishikesh–Bhaniawala road through the ecologically sensitive elephant corridor be scrapped. We raised serious ecological, legal & public safety concerns. We urged NHAI & the Government of Uttarakhand to rethink the project before irreversible damage is caused.

Ira Chauhan spoke about the ecological importance of elephant corridor, Himanshu Arora highlighted the legal concerns surrounding tree felling & Rishikesh based Dinesh Semwal questioned the need for four-laning, saying he had never experienced traffic congestion on this stretch. I concluded by questioning why large-scale tree felling was being undertaken during the monsoon season and expressed concern over the continued diversion of Uttarakhand's forests.

Our campaign now moves to its next phase. I invite all concerned citizens to join us for a peaceful protest outside the NHAI Office on Wednesday, 8 July, at 4:00 PM at 21, Phase 1, Engineers Enclave, GMS Road, Dehradun. Hope you will attend this gathering of solidarity.
