I prefer equity + freedom over a bigger check that comes with strings attached. Drake’s $400M is front-loaded cash from a label that still owns a big piece of his music. Jay built real ownership and control. I’d rather own my shit and be free than take a larger advance while someone else controls my catalogue. Checks are nice obviously I’m not saying the money is worthless it’s more than entire bloodlines make. But owning the asset that prints money forever is better.

1) that is so cap it’s like empty calories. 2) he does a lot of filler lines simply to rhyme words. And someone like Kendrick makes sure every word counts when he’s rapping technical. Everything has purpose, entendres, etc while simultaneously being technical.,
