I have been trying to raise awareness about the recent cuts to pandemic preparedness by provincial institutions in BC for the past 1½ months. Most of the cuts were not announced to the public beforehand and media coverage has been scant. 1/?

@heather4OakBay @CHEK_News I think there are many differing patient opinions, as evidenced by the patient interviewed. What’s clear is that there are too few care options for people with LC, ME, fibromyalgia, EDS, etc. and limiting access to one without offering another option seems like abandonment.

Honestly I’ve hit my breaking point. On call this week and just crushed. It’s insanity to do a specialist consult on a complex patient in 20 minutes. If I take longer then urgent care is delayed and the pile gets bigger.

Now Sechelt hospital has no physician capacity and patients are being sent over to me in the night. For the first time in 22 years of medical practice I said no. It felt terrible because the patient gets caught in the middle.

It’s unsafe. It’s hurting me. It’s hurting my family. It’s hurting patients. Leadership at the highest level in the VCH health authority need to lead. I have dedicated 22 years to Lions gate hospital. I’m seriously contemplating resigning.

Whoever forms the next government needs to make people in highly paid positions in administration accountable. Done with mediocrity. Politicians can’t fix the system but they can demand accountability from those they hire in to these roles.

@catladyactivist I told a psychiatrist that I was desperate to apply for MAiD because of my fatigue and she threatened to section me. And now if I tell one that I don't want to go out after years of COVID-19-induced suffering, I'll be labelled mentally ill for that, too?
