🗣️ Shinji Kagawa: “Joining Manchester United was one of the proudest moments of my career. To become the first Japanese player to wear that shirt was an incredible honour. I wasn’t just representing myself—I was representing Japan every time I stepped onto the pitch at Old Trafford. Knowing that so many young Japanese fans were watching me gave me extra motivation every single game.

“I’ll never forget the match against Norwich City in 2013. It’s still the most memorable game of my Manchester United career. Scoring my first and only hat-trick for the club at Old Trafford was a dream come true. Wayne Rooney assisted my first goal, and Robin van Persie set me up for another. The atmosphere was unbelievable, and hearing the fans sing my name after completing the hat-trick is something I’ll carry with me forever.

“Playing under Sir Alex Ferguson taught me what it truly means to be a Manchester United player. Every training session demanded excellence, every match carried pressure, and every trophy had to be earned. Winning the Premier League in my first season made all the hard work worthwhile.

“Manchester United changed my life. It gave me unforgettable memories, incredible teammates, and the chance to inspire an entire generation of Japanese footballers. Even today, whenever I think about Old Trafford, I smile because it will always feel like a special home.”
