Famous eateries such as K Rustom, Shalimar and others are being raided, unhygienic dairies like Parsi Dairy are being shut, and now Maharashtra has introduced stricter food safety rules - free drinking water, no newspaper wrapping, staff health checks, food safety training, stricter hygiene and more.

Makes you wonder, if every IPS, IAS and IRS officer worked with this kind of integrity, how different would India look!

He's Tukaram Mundhe, a 2005-batch IAS from Maharashtra.

Over the last few weeks, you might have heard his name. That is because he was recently appointed Commissioner of State’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Since taking charge, the FDA has been on an absolute warpath, raiding illegal, fake, synthetic, and adulterated products. From synthetic milk networks and adulterated paneer to illegal gutkha and unhygienic eateries, nothing has escaped his radar.

Mundhe has made it clear that even the most famous names will not get a free pass. His department shocked Mumbai by suspending the food licenses of iconic establishments, such as the 73-year-old Marine Drive ice cream parlor K. Rustom & Co., alongside famous eateries like Shalimar Hospitality, Noor Mohammadi Hotel, and Rahmaniya Restaurant, after surprise inspections uncovered severe hygiene violations, including live pests and expired ingredients.

Such is the fear of his crackdowns that, just two days ago, dairy farmers were caught on video spilling hundreds of liters of synthetic milk after rumors of an impending FDA raid spread.

This is his 25th transfer in a 21-year career, a testament to his refusal to bend to political pressure. It makes you wonder: if just one IAS officer can bring about so much change, where would our country be if every bureaucrat were as uncompromising and proactive as him?

Its 1.45 am and i cant sleep bec of severe acidity. I have ulcers. And the last time my ulcers threatened to burst i had to be hospitalized & guess what @icicilombard refused to cover my hospitization cost - bec i hadnt declared my ulcers at the time of taking the policy. But i didnt have ulcers at the time of taking the policy and now they are asking for doctors certificates to confirm i didnt have ulcers at the time of taking the policy. A girl moved to Bangalore for work and rented a 3 BHK flat with two friends.

The three of them paid a total security deposit of ₹2.10 lakh, which meant her share was ₹70,000.

After living there for a few months, the landlord informed them that he wanted to sell the flat and asked them to vacate. They moved out on time, expecting to get their full security deposit back.

But when the refund arrived, the girl received only ₹18,000. Around ₹52,000 had been deducted from her ₹70,000 deposit.

When she asked the landlord for the reason, he said the money was deducted for painting, repairs, and one month's rent because the flat would remain vacant until a new tenant was found.

The girl disagreed. She said that if finding a new tenant was the issue, she could have arranged one herself. She believed it wasn't her responsibility to bear the loss after moving out.

The landlord also deducted money for items that were already damaged before she shifted into the flat. She had informed him about those issues when she moved in, and at that time he had told her not to worry.

Now, those same old damages were being used to cut her deposit.

When she continued asking for her money, the landlord blocked her on WhatsApp.

Left with no other option, the girl decided to send a legal notice. If she doesn't receive a reply within 15 days, she plans to take the matter to court.

This incident is a reminder that while renting a house, your security deposit can be just as important as your monthly rent. Always take photos and videos before moving in, keep records of existing damages, and make sure all deposit terms are clearly mentioned in the rental agreement.

Today something unexpected happened.

I ordered food through Zomato. The delivery partner had delivered to my home several times before, so I recognized him.

After handing over the order, he hesitantly asked, "Bhaiya, can I have a glass of water?"

I invited him in. He left his raincoat outside, came in, and I gave him some water. That's when I noticed his eyes were red, as if he had been crying.

I asked, "What happened?"

He quietly replied, "Kuchh achha nahi hai, bhaiya."

I asked again, and he told me that early this morning his mother had slipped from the stairs. She was in the ICU and her condition was unstable. The next train to his hometown was at 11 PM, and the journey would take nearly 30 hours.

He said, "I don't even know if I'll be able to see her in time."

I asked if he had eaten anything.

He said, "No."

So we shared the same meal together.

After that, I searched for flights on Skyscanner. I found one for around ₹4,000 and booked it for him.

He looked worried and said, "Mai kabhi airport nahi gaya."

I smiled and told him, "Don't worry. My friend is there. He'll help you."

A few hours later, he reached home, met his mother, and called to thank me.

The doctors now say she is expected to recover within the next 12–24 hours.

Sometimes, changing someone's life doesn't take millions of rupees.

Sometimes it takes a glass of water, a meal, and a ticket home.

Be kind.
