Why does this matter? With better understanding of the ocean we will be in a better position
🔹to protect and restore ocean health,
🔹to boost the competitiveness of our blue economy,
🔹to strengthen the resilience and preparedness of coastal communities,
🔹and to contribute to maritime security, safety and defence.
With @EZaharievaEU, we’re bridging science, innovation, and people, because the ocean’s future is our future.
AICEP, acting on behalf of the Portuguese State, and US company SRAMPORT signed an Investment Contract this Friday, 29 May, for the establishment of a new industrial facility in Coimbra dedicated to the production of a wide range of bicycle components.
The investment contract was signed by AICEP President Madalena Oliveira e Silva, in the presence of the Minister for Economy and Territorial Cohesion, Castro Almeida.
This project represents a total investment of approximately €57.5 million and is expected to create 527 new jobs, making a significant contribution to the region's economic development and to the strengthening of the two-wheel value chain, in which Portugal is already Europe's leading bicycle producer.
This will be SRAMPORT's second industrial facility in Portugal, demonstrating the company’s strengthened commitment to the country. Under this Investment Contract, financial support from the Portuguese State amounts to approximately €16.9 million, granted by AICEP under the Contractual Investment Regime and financed through national funds.
Earlier today, the “SRAM Portugal Supplier Conference” took place, bringing together suppliers and industry stakeholders. AICEP Board Member Philomène Dias, responsible for Investment, participated in the event to highlight AICEP's role in supporting investment and developing Portugal’s industrial ecosystem.

Europe was never just collateral damage in the US-China trade war.

China has deployed more than 100 navy and coast guard vessels in regional waters, Taiwan has warned.
The deployment began before Donald Trump’s meeting with Xi Jinping in Beijing, and increased to more than 100 after the summit ended.

Our ISR/intel shows that the #PRC has deployed over 100 vessels around the #1stIslandChain over the past few days, so soon after the #Beijing summit. In this part of the world, #China is the one & only PROBLEM wrecking the #StatusQuo & threatening regional peace & stability.
Achieving EU enlargement is significantly more challenging today than it has been in the past.
One challenge is the tension between the urgency of bringing in Ukraine and the time it will take for Kyiv to make necessary reforms, argues @StefanLehne.

Backchannels that once helped ease tensions between China and Japan are bunged up. And growing warmth between America and China bodes ill for chances of a rapprochement https://t.co/lcbuJG74WS
Last December, we adopted the #HorizonEU work programme 2026-27.
It’s simpler & more accessible with:
- Shorter & less prescriptive topics
- Extended use of lump sums
- Shorter proposals in two-stage call topics
