When I say “we are hillbillies” what I mean is we have random crap everywhere and the “tin” on our sheds doesn’t match because mismatched “tin” is only 9$ a sheet and we don’t care. Also, my husband can fix anything, we eat vermin, and we love Jesus! Also, we blurt out obvious truths that might hurt your feelings, but dang, bless your heart, some one shoulda told ya already. How rude that they didn’t.
It takes 30 minutes to get to town. There isn’t much of a signal and I don’t always want to chat. I love looking out the window (it’s beautiful here). I’m a passenger princess of course. I like silence.
The other day on one of these quiet trips my silence was interrupted suddenly, “you know. I have now officially known life with you in it longer than I’ve known life without you.”
Me “huh. Your right. This is the year that tips the scales.”
Him: “yep. I like it better with you. …still.”
He just says it so matter of fact. Like someone says “the sky is blue.”
One of the harder parts of raising a child with ADHD is the impulsiveness and aggressiveness. They act and then sometimes are as or more horrified by their own behavior than you are. You shouldn’t punish what they can’t control.
They already feel bad.
Besides saying “gentle hands” constantly, the most helpful thing was directing them to their bed/pillow to release pent up aggression. They could hit squeeze etc to their hearts desire and get it out.
My mom made me run laps around the house. That worked well for me.
Sometimes I wonder if God uses this approach with us and we just don’t realize it.
I had one. It was a sensory issue. He was too young to understand.
Imagine a giant is putting you in a contraption akin to a straight jacket wherein you have no clue how long you must be restrained and all you want to do is move because you just learned to walk like 18 months ago. And you need to practice: running, jumping, spinning, and all these other new physical skills in order to acquire new ones.
Babies that hate being babies become toddlers that fight the car seat.
He chilled out as he came to understand what was going on. I also kept my hair short during this time period. Very practical btw
Now he is a soldier, go figure.
@TKWilsonAuthor1 Adults forget how awful this is. 😭 I don’t remember it because it wasn’t a thing…. But I’d have definitely fought it. I hate being confined as an adult!!!!
We introduced health and sex education in public schools to assure all students had access to basic information long before it was readily available. I see no reason why in 2026 we can’t remove it all. There are enough organizations and groups that can offer these classes and parents can take their children if they want to do so. We all say schools do too much. Let’s drop this because there simply is no longer the need.
@oliveegger My husband was a total spaz. His mom put him in tumbling. As a teen he started doing track and high jump and pole vault were his events… national champ in one. They both are essentially doing a back flip over a bar…. So… it can’t hurt
@Shoutout219 Oh, really? Was this good or bad?
I had questions and I cornered my parents at a young age (I’m the oldest) WHERE DID THESE BABIES COME FROM?!
