Agreed. As a submitter I tend to default to "Dear Editor" but as an editor myself I'm good with either "Dear Editor" or "Dear Sarah."

Maybe not "Dear Ma'am" though.

As a general practice avoid gendering editors while submitting your work. Addressing them by their name(s) or something simple like dear editors/team is enough.
Our favourite one so far is "ang(st) zine crew".
