I never wanted to reply to you Dipke because every time we reply to these unnecessary arguments we only give them more reach.

But there is something you really need to understand.

First of all just call Neha Bora and ask her what exactly happened yesterday. She was there. She saw everything.

Now let me explain the difference between the two protests.

When CJP gave the protest call you kept telling everyone that you might get detained. You said it again and again.

And you were detained.

But what was the plan for the people who were coming? Where were they supposed to go if Jantar Mantar was blocked? Who was going to lead them?

People ended up in small groups across Delhi. Some had 10 people. Some had 20. Some had more.

The police could easily surround and detain these smaller groups.

Now look at yesterday.

Rahul Gandhi gave the call. He told people where to come. He told them what the march was about.

And most importantly he came out to lead it himself.

He stood at the front with other opposition leaders. People knew who was leading them. They knew where they were going. They knew what they were fighting for.

Thousands of people marched together.

There were police vans everywhere. There were barricades. There were police forces on the streets.

Even the march was stopped near the Supreme Court.

So please don’t pretend there was no police presence.

I believe the huge crowd made the police think twice before taking stronger action.

That is the difference between a few people standing in separate groups and thousands marching together.

And please stop acting as if the only reason yesterday’s protest was different was some secret plan by the government.

Sometimes you also need to look at your own planning.

Neha Bora was there on the streets. She faced the police during the earlier protests too. Talk to her. Ask her what actually happened.

One more thing.

Leadership is not just about giving a protest call and then talking about how you were detained.

Leadership is also about making sure people know what to do when things go wrong.

People need someone who will take responsibility. Someone who will stand with them. Someone who will lead from the front.

And please stop turning every discussion into a story about how you were victimised.

Nobody is denying what happened to the protesters on October 10. The police action against them deserves serious questions.

But that does not mean you should keep questioning why yesterday’s protest was successful.

And if you really believe that all protests are one protest then start acting like it.

Everyone is welcome. Every organisation is welcome.

We are fighting for the same cause.

Use your energy to raise your voice against the issues we are protesting about.

Not to keep explaining why your protest faced police action while another protest brought thousands of people together.

Stop playing the victim card every time someone asks questions about your planning.

Look at what went wrong. Learn from it. And come together.

Because the whole country needs to stand together for this fight.

The right to peaceful protest is fundamental to our democracy. We cannot demand that right for ourselves in Delhi and deny it to others in Bengaluru.

I have taken note of yesterday’s incident involving protesters and members of the media. I have sought a full report on the circumstances that led to the police action. If there has been any unnecessary use of force or excess, accountability will follow.

Let me be clear: disagreement with the Election Commission, disagreement with my government, or disagreement with me personally does not diminish anyone’s right to peacefully express it.

Karnataka must hold itself to the democratic standards that we expect from the rest of the country. There will be no double standards.

We cannot demand the right to protest in Delhi and deny it in Bengaluru. There will be no double standards.

Rahul Gandhi didn’t wake up yesterday and claim Vote Chori.

He built his own team, spent 6 months investigating, and held his first press conference only after his doubts following the MP election were reinforced by what happened in Haryana.

At the time, he got public support but many political parties, including BJP and AAP, mocked him. Most journalists didn’t seriously investigate either.

There’s a story behind this annual madness.

Through our Purushottam Malati Foundation, we’ve worked with transgender women in Pune’s red-light district to make and sell handmade Diwali candles. Some of you bought them here in 2022–23.

Last year, they couldn’t make them because there was a cylinder blast in their basti.

So @SagarAwatade and I arranged sarees and sweets for them regardless. They were still going to have their Diwali.

This year, Laxmi wanted to earn through her own work again.

She makes these seasonally, starting around July, getting everything ready before Diwali, then sending the boxes to me.

And, as usual, she has delivered. Literally.

Laddoos, jalebis, imartis, modaks and kaju katli, all made from wax, complete with little silver flourishes. Please look for the wick before conducting a taste test.

What she doesn’t know is how many boxes are still lying unsold.

I’ve always made sure she gets her asking price. The sarees and sweets happen regardless, too. I take responsibility for finding buyers once her work is done.

But I would love to move these boxes from my house into yours.

Because she enjoys making them. Because she wanted to work for her Diwali. Because look at what she’s made.
