Give me a poetry I can wear.
Something to keep me warm
against the night and the wind.
A thing that fits snug
like a glove or a sock
to make me feel close
to myself, not alone.
Give me a poetry like shoes
that will walk with me.
Give me a poetry
that fits.
I worried the gun would come today
to take you.
each line pulls a thread
I feel the wind
beneath my sweater,
we cry to keep the cold in.
I worried the word would come
swallow me up
and you,
sitting with our mouths open.
The rain is crimson today
the sky torn
in anticipation.
Let's hear it two times
for all of the last times
all of those past lives
I thought were just another.
Here is the book-end
the dead-end, the jump-off
here is the page
I have to flip over.
Let's hear it two times
for starting a new life
all we have is time
let's start another
How the recurring characters
of my dreams do play
across untethered brow
for nocturnal visitations.
Half elongate faces haunt me
forgotten names, misused places.
I am sure and unsure
of everything here.
The same alarm wakes me
scatters infestations
I am left stiff, empty.
We can't afford to be unwell
here, the land of the unhealthy
well-being is deductible.
Wake up with the same pain
I'll be fond of come the Summer,
illness carried long enough to know
as blood brothers.
We are sick and tired
until we're sleeping, dreaming
of anywhere but America
Guess this tree:
Barren now, or almost
all that's left is brown
and rattles in the winter wind.
Still, the king of the treeline
limbs like lesser leafers,
a trunk that's a pillar
holding up God.
Keeps its seeds in houses,
houses spirits,
a slow and quirky grower.
You'd be forgiven
if you missed it,
that lingering fair air
I'd call that scent a silhouette,
left with just a fuzzy image
sneeze and you might miss it,
breathe twice and hold
before the wind hits,
steals nostalgia on its wings
till all you're left with,
lingering stale air.
Guess the tree:
Early blooms in Spring
a stench persistent
linger till the early Summer.
A form so perfect,
for a lollipop,
that Plato cries "ideal."
Deep red now, in Autumn
like blood, clotted
a leaf clinger until the end.
A sudden drop of color
past bark
like soggy fingers.
The squirrels are half-mad
in preparation
as the color changes,
God has fixed the highlights blue.
Not only is the air cool,
I can feel it fill my lungs,
but my hands tingle
at the touch of metal.
Each look and every face
feels deeper,
as we turn inward, fall is there
a stranger.
@BeingGayle I think it can make the interplay between characters very interesting in specific scene. Cormac MCarthy is known for this. It can really blur the lines and increase the layers of interpretation. I enjoy it. Can be difficult to read and follow though. Pros and cons
I try to hold myself together
as I sweep myself up.
There is less of me in more places
than yesterday.
Did that star know
it'd die a slow death
spinning circles
around the new kid?
