I read How to Win Friends & Influence People in 8th grade. I was a introvert back then and really wanted to learn how to make friends. In Dale Carneige's book one thing I learnt was Active Listening.

It means to to actively engage in listening, understanding, comprehending what the other person is saying. And engage in asking questions and also paraphrase some sentences to understand better and show the other person you have been listening.

This is not a trick, just absolute presence. The shift from listening to active listening was a game changer for me as a introvert. People confided in me more. My memory naturally began to sharpen with vivid and visual details. And I also learnt how and when to leverage information.

What I learnt about staying present was that it takes effort until it becomes second nature. And once that happens, it's like an unfair advantage being unlocked.
