Delhi Police personnel allegedly assaulted doctors who were treating innocent children & people injured in the stampede.

★ Several doctors reportedly suffered serious injuries, with some requiring stitches.
Such brutality against healthcare workers is unacceptable.

After attacking the very doctors who were treating injured children, how will those responsible ever walk into a hospital and face the same medical professionals when they need treatment themselves?

#WATCH | Delhi | On CJP protest, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor says, "When a non-violent protest is taking place, what is the reason for a lathi-charge? Lathi charge is not an act of non-violence. It is an act of violence. I don't understand the logic of this. Similarly here in Parliament, everyone knows these are burning issues across the country. It would be logical to have a discussion on them. Parliament is supposed to be the place where we can ventilate the voice of the people, the concerns of the people. Once we do that, we all know the government has a majority. As the old saying goes, the Opposition must have its say because the government will have its way. They have the majority. But at least let parliament be a forum where these concerns can be heard, can be truly ventilated and voiced, where various people can represent the views of their constituents. Then the government can disagree. But right now, just refusing a discussion is what has led to today's disruption because the opposition wanted these issues up there, wanted an opportunity to talk about them on the floor of the house. If Parliament is not for raising these issues, then honestly, what is it for? I mean, it can't just be a sort of notice board for the government to announce its bills and get them passed with a rubber stamp. That's not what Parliament is all about. It should be a forum where all these views can be heard, discussed, debated as necessary and then passed. The Prime Minister has sought cooperation from the opposition. We'll cooperate if they cooperate. The idea should be that there should be mutual cooperation. Let them permit certain discussions. This has got to be give and take. That's the way Parliament is supposed to function."

46,203 Hectares Forest Diverted in #Uttarakhand, 47% in #Dehradun district alone:

On #Harela, I'm reflecting on where Uttarakhand stands today. Through an RTI I filed, I found that 46,203 hectares of forest land have been diverted for development projects since the state's formation in 2000. What worries me most is that 47% of this diversion has taken place in #Dehradun district alone, a district that is just 6% of the totals state's area.

Ironically, as we celebrate Harela, thousands of trees continue to be felled for the Rishikesh–Bhaniyawala highway. I'm deeply concerned that this has become the symbol of a development model that is pushing our fragile Himalayan ecosystems beyond their limits. The question for us all is that is this really the future we want?

It's obvious that Uttarakhand urgently needs climate resilient, ecologically responsible development, carrying capacity based planning, strict compliance with environmental laws, protection of natural forests and complete transparency on compensatory afforestation. I am sure that you will agree with me that Harela should be a day not only to plant trees, but also to protect the forests we still have.
