I won a hat for top 3 loudest applause pitching at a live Product Hunt event!
Thanks @iamjasonlevin@ProductHunt@Invest_Ottawa and Rami for organising the event!
I've been busy building since I moved to Ottawa a few years ago and it was my first event since then so thought I'd jump into the deep end and pitch Starlo.
From the pitches before me (and after), all I could think about in my head was 'don't mess up the lines' and 'dam, these other products are really good'.
Of course, I messed up some lines but I had fun and met some amazing people and even got a few new customers.
Some of the best comments that really got me inspired over the evening:
'I've been looking for something like Starlo for a while now!'
'I should have gone with you earlier.'
'Nice hat.'
If you have any events going on around you, would highly recommend diving in for inspiration, meeting incredible people, and opening up new opportunities.

@ThePeterMick There could have been spaceships everywhere and we wouldn't have known, it was this weather for the whole road trip π Pubs and were nice
You've set the bar high for the rest of us!
As the first one is quite special, you could start a yearly tradition, some ideas:
- Photoshoot with repeatable fun poses
- Create some art that you can add to each year
- Rent out a movie screen to play favourite/custom films
Some other ideas:
- Custom song based on your memories
- Shoutouts from a celebrity she's a fan of
- Flash mob
- Fill the house with puppies (and floor cleaner)
- Unique VR experience, (I created one for my wife when we were long distance with some added deliveries but can be anything to mix the realities)
Or all of the above :D
@constantout For me, it would be working on something that has such a wide impact around the world.
Even though it may only be a small bit, things you build at FAANG can have knock on effects that reach a lot of people.
@theshaneduggan I wouldn't trust a website that doesn't have both.
But copy communicates past and future performance whereas design can be bought in a single payment.
@MiguelSarenas It's ok, one more year and you're nearly 30 π
I do feel like that sometimes. Journalling helps me keep track of days and multiple meditation breaks help me be more present so I feel less like every day is slipping by.
I was going to just post this picture of plant stands I made but it ended up as tips to avoid burnout π
I'm heading to Ireland/UK in a few days for my first full day off in months.
I feel like I can keep going but I do notice some signs that have led to burnout before. Silly mistakes, lack of appetite, and increased blood pressure are a few.
It's been a good streak and finding better ways to weave in life and keep up the intensity. Here are some habits that are working well for me and may work for you also:
- Morning workouts while listening to audiobooks
Start the day with a different perspective while increasing your energy capacity. This is a non-negotiable for me.
- 2 daily walks
After lunch and after dinner to help digestion, get fresh air, relax eyes, move body, and catch up with my wife/talk about nonsense, or the meaning of life.
- Make it easy to eat healthy
Meal prep, snack prep, shopping prep. The difference in energy levels and brain clarity are huge going from junk to healthy foods.
- Enjoy your work
Easier said than done, I know. But if you get excited about your work and do so while talking about it, you can also inspire others and become an energy fountain.
- Take intentional screen breaks
Rest your eyes and brain in set breaks by holding a plank, stretching your spine by hanging, timed chore challenges, or working on a hobby for a little bit.
One of my hobbies recently has been woodwork as I thought it was fitting as there's a lot of wood in Canada. Oh yeah, here's that picture of some plant stands I made:
