My name is Jeremy Ray. Nothing pleases me more than a good story. As an author, I rotate between writing horror and drama. As a reader, I devour all genres. 🌛🌞

. @ray_stories’s My Mother’s Eyes is a powerful, emotional short story that’s worth a read if you like realistic character psychology and a touch of tragedy. #KindleUnlimited
@KnightofOtter I co-started a podcast called Nobody Reads Short Story. I'm no longer a host but to support it; in fact, new episodes of it will be coming out this year!🙂
The story can be dark, and not all the characters have happy journeys, but there was enough light to keep me watching. #Treme is still my favorite by Simon, but this is a close second. If you have watched or end up watching, please let me know! Would love to hear what you think!
#thedeuce is another TV series created by #davidsimon, who created The Wire and Treme. I don’t know if it’s the influence of having The Deuce co-created by mystery novelist George Pelecanos, but The Deuce felt a tad more plot driven than Simon’s prior work. (More below⬇️)
Due to the subject matter, The Deuce contains explicit sex, violence, and drug use. (I recommend anyone interested in reviewing the content warnings online in more detail.) The story features women and gay characters dealing with various kinds of abuse and can be triggering.
#TheSevenHusbandsOfEvelynHugo by #TaylorJenkinsReid follows reclusive former Hollywood star Evelyn Hugo. As she speaks to journalist Monique, we learn how Hugo really became the most famous star of the 1950s and the famous spouses she had along the way. (More below⬇️)
This book came out in 2017, but its buzz will not dim. With a movie in the works, I expect it’s going to be a classic. I’m so happy I gave it a read and will read more of Taylor Jenkins Reid in the future.
Some of the plot turns at the end could have used more finesse, especially the one that reveals Evelyn’s true reason for choosing the journalist, Monique. I would have also liked more of a character journey for Monique, but could overlook both these things.
Tremé is not plot-centeric and is geared to those who like character-centered shows like The Wire. You might also like it if you are into New Orleans, jazz, and food. (Each is heavily featured.) If you’ve seen Tremé already, I would love to hear what you thought of it!
The show Tremé gets its name from a neighborhood in New Orleans and follows the lives of its residents as they deal with the consequences of #hurricanekatrina. It's by the creators of #thewire, David Simon and Eric Overmyer, and has a similar story-telling style. (More below⬇️)
Simon’s ability to show multiple perspectives is probably my favorite thing about Simon’s work. Instead of overt moralizing, he uses his characters to paint an intricate tapestry of the landscape and events. It’s no surprise that David Simon started out as a journalist.
