From the beginning, the US always set the pace.
The US initiated each skirmish, and held that initiative all the way through it -- only calling for a ceasefire when it began to lose it. Iran always agreed.

It was like a cheat-code for the US, allowing it to maximise the damage inflicted upon Iran, while minimising the cost. No one in Washington DC could argue against further escalation.

This time Iran is no longer agreeing to ceasefires. It even abused the meeting with Oman to seize the initiative itself and launch a surprise attack on the US. Exactly like Trump bombastically broadcast to the world. All the nay sayers who told me it would be a bad idea for Iran to launch preemptive strikes on the US are now cheer leading this surprise attack. No American is jumping up and down calling for blood. Instead, you have Kosher Jones calling for Trump's impeachment.

Iranians have finally started studying game theory and put away the old asymmetric warfare textbooks. In these matters holding the initiative is life and death.

Well done Iran, may God protect your people and grant your dignified and great civilisation its greatest victory in history.
