🚨 The people of #Suwayda must have a seat at the table.

The #Druze Academic Network in the Netherlands (#DPNN) has submitted a documented memorandum to U.S. Ambassador Tom Barrack @USAMBTurkiye in #Turkey, while briefing relevant U.S. and international authorities, challenging the characterization of the July 2025 events in Suwayda as merely “violence within the community.”

The UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria documented a widespread and systematic attack against Druze civilians, including unlawful killings, torture, sexual violence, arbitrary detention and abduction, religious persecution, forced displacement, looting and the destruction of homes and infrastructure. Approximately 155,000 Druze civilians fled 35 devastated villages.

#DPNN supports de-escalation, civilian protection, the return of displaced people, reparations and the release of detainees and missing persons. But accountability must be based on independent international investigations, not political narratives or selective justice.

Suwayda also has its own institutions and representatives. Any political roadmap concerning its future must include the genuine voice and free will of its people.

No settlement about Suwayda can be legitimate if Suwayda is excluded from the table.

Peace cannot be designed for Suwayda without the people of Suwayda.

#Damascus Forces Humiliate Travelers and Seize Food Supplies at Al-Matounah Checkpoint.

According to the Sweida Documentation and Media Center, several travelers arriving from Damascus to Sweida reported that General Security forces affiliated with the Damascus terrorist government stopped their buses at Al-Matounah checkpoint today, Sunday, causing queues that in some cases lasted hours.

According to testimonies received by the center, passengers were forced to unload their luggage for full inspection, while food supplies they were carrying were confiscated. Women’s personal bags were also searched. Travelers described the treatment by General Security personnel as extremely abusive, including insults directed at both passengers and bus drivers.

One traveler told the center that a General Security officer entered a bus and threatened the passengers:

“You have one minute to open your bags. If you’re late, I’ll send you back to Damascus.”

The same restrictions are also affecting trucks carrying goods and food supplies into Sweida. Truck drivers reported that checkpoint personnel continue forcing them to unload and inspect their entire cargo, resulting in hours of delays and, in some cases, spoiled goods due to prolonged stoppages.

These practices come amid the continued restrictions imposed by the Damascus authorities on the movement of goods and essential supplies into Sweida, including the ongoing blockade of fuel and other basic necessities. The restrictions are placing further pressure on transportation, supply chains, and the availability of essential goods across Sweida.

🚨 BREAKING - #Sweida Is Under Fire | Damascus forces have once again opened fire on Sweida’s western neighborhoods, launching mortar shells and indiscriminate 23mm machine-gun fire from multiple positions at around 7:30 PM.

A child was wounded by shrapnel in the thigh, while the shelling continues across the western front following yet another violation of the ceasefire by Damascus terrorist forces and the tribal militias operating alongside them.

This is not a “ceasefire” when civilian neighborhoods remain under fire and children are still being wounded. It is continued intimidation and collective punishment against Sweida and its people.

Justice for the Victims of Sweida: Sign to Challenge Impunity

A group of legal experts, human rights specialists, and representatives of civil society organizations have submitted a legal memorandum to the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Syrian Arab Republic calling for a comprehensive legal assessment of the violations that occurred in Sweida Governorate in July 2025.

This initiative comes as the Commission has announced that it will issue a special report on the violence in Sweida, creating an important opportunity to advance the path toward international accountability.

Documented evidence indicates that grave violations were committed against civilian members of the Druze community, including mass killings, extrajudicial executions, torture, abductions, and the destruction of homes and property. These acts warrant careful legal evaluation in light of the Genocide Convention and the principles of international criminal law.
