A6: Smaller, more incremental changes as a part of 1st order change. 1st order change can be easier for long-time staff members to embrace. 2nd order change is more uncomfortable & requires a new shift in thinking, & it can require a mind shift for staff. #EDLE5330
A5 (2/2) Some high level questions we are addressing are how to best communicate this to our community? How can we begin to change the way legislators see school accountability? How can our district create buy-in on the guiding principles of the new CBAS? #EDLE5330
A5: (1/2) My district is working with other districts to promote a Community-Based Accountability System. We are trying to change the way our community thinks about how schools, school districts, and students are evaluated and seen by the community. #EDLE5330
@Cho213@aojeda288 @DCRB_Sammi Oh. MY. WORD!!! How many committees have we been on that just dissolved or went away? As aspiring leaders, we must work to value teachers' time & efforts. It only takes a second to lose credibility with staff when they feel their time is wasted & opinions not valued. #EDLE5330
@aggiejenny06 Yes. I have colleagues that mask buy-in amazingly well, but they are still in the compliance stage. This is where relationships are key. #EDLE5330
@ksuhr22 @DoughneyJ Great thoughts! When we force insistence, are we really getting buy-in or just compliance? I think this affects the ultimate outcome in the long run. #EDLE5330
@ksuhr22@krisrob0719 @DoughneyJ Fullan said, "change agents don't live more peacefully -- they can handle more uncertainty -- and conflictโฆ" I guess sleepless nights too. #EDLE5330
@aojeda288 So true! That's where relationships are key. My principal is great at this. She really meets each person where they are. Some don't need all the rationale, and some can't unfreeze from their current position without the "why." #EDLE5330
A2: A good leader must always be looking to challenge the status quo even if they are unsure of the outcome, always considering new and better ways to do things. Good leaders operate at the edge of competence versus the center of it. #EDLE5330
@Dedraadams @DoughneyJ Spot on! Many teachers (myself included) are type A and want it to be done well. We don't feel we mastered the first thing, and now a new initiative surfaces. #EDLE5330
@Dedraadams @DoughneyJ It's amazing how accepting kids are to change, but adults are not. We've been "burned" by change before, and adults come in with baggage and skepticism. #EDLE5330
