A European Junior Champion, World Championship medalist, and Ukrainian record holder, Mykhailo set a national record by bench pressing 190 kilograms at the Ukrainian Cup in Kolomyia.

Many more records, international competitions, and podium finishes lay ahead of him.

But like thousands of Ukrainian athletes, he made a choice that cannot be measured in medals.

He chose to defend his country.

Today, Ukraine has lost not only a gifted athlete. It has lost a young man who could have brought glory to his nation on the world's sporting stages, but instead gave his life so that his nation could continue to exist.

It is especially heartbreaking to realize how many young, strong, and talented Ukrainians this war continues to take—people who could have trained future champions, broken new records, built families, and shaped the country's future.

Russia is not only killing soldiers.

It is destroying a generation of Ukrainian champions.

Rest in peace, Mykhailo Malkush.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has reportedly made a strong public statement that, according to the claim, signals a dramatic shift in Beijing's position toward Russia.
