Instacart is a perfect example of gender stereotypes in action and their ultimate validation. The only truly successful Instacart orders I receive are when a male and female couple fulfills the order.

When I get a female shopper, my order is perfection. She will send me photos of substitutions, ask me frequently if there's anything I'd like. If buying fruit, she will ask me if I'd like a mix of some ripe and some not to preserve them better. It's a wonderful experience inside the store, albeit a bit long.

When she delivers, she will get lost at least 25% of the time. She will leave my order in wild places. I have a fire access road, which she hiked up 50 yards in thick mud and just left my groceries there. One woman ignored my directions and delivered my order to a neighboring town with a similar street name. Another driver was scared to drive up my steep driveway, so I told her just to leave them at the bottom. She then couldn't back out and drove off my driveway into my drainage. She needed to be towed.

Men will shop in 35 seconds and make it to my house faster than is even possible unless driving 25 miles over the speed limit. They will ignore items I know are in stock and just mark them as out of stock because they didn't want to circle back. They will substitute literally anything for anything. I had avocados replaced with a bag of oranges. I had ice cream replaced with an entire ice cream cake. I had one guy shop so fast that he refunded nearly everything but shave gel and bottled water and gave me no notice to pick replacements.

It's kind of amazing actually.
