If this report is accurate, then Nigeria’s 2027 political field is becoming even more complicated, and APC should not be laughing too early.
The reported move by the Turaki-led “authentic” PDP to ratify Goodluck Jonathan as its presidential candidate would immediately reopen one of the most emotional political conversations in Nigeria: the memory of Jonathan’s presidency, his peaceful concession in 2015, and the question of whether Nigerians now see him differently after years of APC rule.
This is where the political danger begins for Tinubu’s APC.
Jonathan is not just another name on the ballot. He carries memory. He carries nostalgia. He carries the image of a president who handed over power peacefully. He carries a calmer political identity in a country that is now tired of tension, hardship, arrogance, insecurity, and economic punishment.
But this also tells us something deeper: Nigeria’s opposition space is no longer sleeping. ADC has produced Atiku Abubakar as its presidential flagbearer. PDP factions are reportedly moving around Jonathan. Other blocs are calculating. The old political assumptions are breaking. The 2027 race is no longer looking like a comfortable walkover for Tinubu.
APC wanted Nigerians to believe the opposition was dead, scattered, confused, and too weak to organize. But what we are seeing now is different. Big names are moving. Platforms are shifting. Political camps are realigning. The anger in the country is looking for a vehicle, and every serious actor knows that Tinubu’s record is vulnerable.
Food prices are painful. Fuel is painful. Businesses are struggling. Insecurity remains. Purchasing power is weak. Many Nigerians no longer feel the “renewed hope” they were promised. That is why every opposition movement now has oxygen.
For ADC, this development should not create panic. It should create urgency. Atiku and ADC must understand that the opposition field may become crowded, but the strongest campaign will be the one with structure, discipline, unity, message, and national reach. Jonathan may bring nostalgia. Others may bring regional emotion. But ADC must bring a clear rescue mission.
The message must be simple: Nigeria cannot survive another round of Tinubu’s APC failure. Whether it is ADC, PDP, or any other opposition bloc, the real national question is how to end hardship, restore security, rebuild the economy, and return dignity to ordinary Nigerians.
But politically, ADC must also be sharp. A divided opposition gives APC oxygen. A serious, coordinated opposition gives APC fear. If Jonathan enters through PDP and Atiku leads ADC, then the conversation must not become childish insults between opposition supporters. The focus must remain on the ruling party’s failure.
Tinubu’s APC is the common political problem.
The people are suffering. The country is tired. The ruling party is vulnerable. Every opposition movement must understand that 2027 is not the season for ego. It is the season for strategy.
If Jonathan is ratified, then the race becomes more dramatic.
But ADC must remain focused.
Atiku has the structure. ADC has the momentum. Nigerians have the anger. APC has the record. And that record is the greatest campaign against Tinubu in 2027.
