Despite climate change leading to heavier rainfall and prolonged monsoon seasons, there has been a significant improvement in urban flood management and water clearance times across Punjab this year. This progress is the result of the Punjab Government’s extensive efforts to strengthen drainage infrastructure, including the construction of underground water storage tanks, the installation of new drainage and sewerage pipelines, and the expansion of WASA services to districts across the province.

In addition, the government has procured state-of-the-art equipment and machinery for every district. As a result, each district now has its own dedicated fleet, eliminating the need to wait for equipment to be dispatched from other cities. These investments have substantially enhanced the province’s ability to respond quickly and effectively to heavy rainfall and urban flooding.

I, together with the entire provincial administration, am personally overseeing the situation on the ground. Every department is monitoring developments minute by minute and working in close coordination and complete unison. This whole-of-government approach has ensured a swift, effective response and is setting a new benchmark in governance, coordination, and public service delivery.
