@alexunickel Also, conclusions like this make me question the methodology of the cited paper. Comparing increases in absolute dollars rather than percent-of-income obscures the fact that $123 per month is a lot more of a burden for a poor person than $167 a month is for a rich person.

@alexunickel I think it's less a scapegoat and more a bellwether. The idea that the significant presence of a company that directly profits off housing scarcity and the presence of housing scarcity are unconnected doesn't really feel to me like a reasonable assumption.

@acapellascience These were the first two presidential elections since Shelby County vs. Holder, and any attempt to build the consequences of that into their model would've been complete ad hoc guesswork. I think the honest thing to do was ignore it and then clearly disclose that shortcoming.

@acapellascience I'm not sure this is entirely fair. A significant portion of what they "missed" both years was voter suppression, a thing that polls can't really account for, and they explicitly acknowledged that gap when they announced their 2020 model.
