Still not sure how you're voting on Saturday? Check out this handy breakdown of where the two parties vying to form government stand on public education, issue by issue: https://t.co/oABY44nwBm #ITeachIVote#bcpoli#bced#BCElection2024
From the mouths of billionaires:
“The NDP focuses on penalizing the uber-successful one per cent with high taxes that the successful can afford…the successful sacrifice their lives, health, and time with their families, and the lazy voter benefits.” #bcpoli
Two of BC's largest unions have issued a letter to members outlining what’s at stake for public education in #BCElection2024. “We face a critical choice,” BCTF President @ClintJohnston7 and @CUPEBC President Karen Ranalletta write. Full letter: https://t.co/KnapeUVnMg #bcpoli
And he wants a career in public life? Democracy is a participation activity if you can’t even pass the lowest bar of that career choice, facing questions, then maybe find something else to do with your life.
The knee-jerk hate replies to this post are disgusting. @InclusionBC is a valued non-profit organization advocating for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and Conservative supporters are flinging garbage at them. Cut it out, bullies.
Inclusion BC is disturbed by the @Conservative_BC platform on education.
Research in Canada and around the world shows us that all students learn better in inclusive classrooms. (A thread🧵)

If anyone is wondering where the #bcpoli discourse has gone, read the replies. Some folks see the word “inclusion” and respond with the homophobic slur “groomer,” when this is an association that supports people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

It’s as if the BC Conservative social media rage bros and bots don’t know that there are 50,000 #bced teachers in public schools in our province who vote, many of whom in close ridings. But ya, keep trash talking them in your comments 🙄

A few weeks ago I was glad to talk with @HarrisonMooney about the threats of indoctrination, book-banning, and transphobia in #bced. Unfortunately, the BC Conservatives seem set on pushing all three.
“Education is not about politics,” John Rustad said in 2002. Now, if elected, he’s proposing to review B.C. school books to ensure they’re “neutral.”
By whose standards? @HarrisonMooney writes. #BCElxn2024

Call me old-fashioned, but where I’m from (the mean streets of North Vancouver), if you’re a politician needing legal counsel to account for hate, reprehensible conspiracy theories, and guano opinions you’ve expressed…
…you should just resign.
It’s a very concerning platform that they have unsuccessfully attempted to sanitize so it appears more mainstream/normal. There are also some oddly specific items in it. Overall, the weirdest and most disturbing education platform that I’ve read. #bced#BCElxn2024#bcpoli
So at this point, a costed platform is still missing & the BC Conservatives' education plan is being rewritten on the fly
With healthcare arguably the #1 issue for #bcpoli voters, we still haven't seen that plan; their website has near zero detail
General voting day is Saturday
The election is on Saturday. Let’s do what we can to ensure the BC Conservatives’ disastrous education platform does not become reality. Schools need more support, not less, and we need a government that will keep working together with teachers.
Each promise represents a leap backward for BC families at a time when we need smart and strategic investment in students and schools — not cuts, privatization, and partisan political interference. 2/9
The BC Conservatives’ education plan avoids any of the actual needs in #bced & instead distracts with harmful rhetoric targeting 2SLGBTQIA+ students, IBPOC communities & students with disabilities. And it clearly signals an attack on teachers, in a bargaining year no less.
The BC Conservative Party has released an education platform that shows a deep misunderstanding of public schools and what students in them need. #BCElection2024#ITeachIVote#bcpoli#bced 1/9

“From the outside, it all might seem extremely weird. But there’s reason for the rest us to be worried about what’s happening in BC. The election there is a glimpse into our future as a country if nothing changes, one where..” 1/2
