On this day in 1812, the Battle of Queenston Heights was fought.
Despite being heavily outnumbered, the British and Canadian troops, along with their Mohawk allies, defeated the American invaders. Major General Isaac Brock was killed in the battle.

The RCAF Flyers, a team mostly made up of #RCAF members and veterans and one that few gave chance to win at all, won the gold medal ice hockey at the 1948 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz, Switzerland.

The CF-105 Avro Arrow was a long-range, all-weather supersonic interceptor. It was intended as a replacement for the CF-100 but the program was suddenly cancelled in February 1959, a decision still controversial today!

#OTD in 1942, the Canadian Women’s Auxiliary Air Force was renamed the Royal Canadian Air Force (Women’s Division).

En 2008, les Flyers de l’ARC furent intronisés au Temple de la renommée olympique du Canada.

Ce #LundiCartographie, nous visitons la Patinoire olympique de St- Moritz, en Suisse. C’est là que les Flyers de l’ARC ont remporté la médaille d’or en hockey sur glace en 1948.

Étonnement, les Flyers de l’ARC restent invaincus, battant toutes les autres équipes sauf 1 match nul contre la Tchécoslovaquie, grande favorite. Les 2 équipes terminent avec un même nombre de victoires, mais les Flyers sont déclarés gagnants, avantagés par la différence de buts.

This #MappingMonday we are visiting the St. Moritz Olympic Ice Rink in Switzerland. It was here that the #RCAF Flyers won the gold medal in ice hockey in 1948.

Surprising more than a few, the RCAF Flyers went undefeated. They beat all teams they played except for a tie against the heavily favoured Czechoslovakians. Both teams finished with the same record, but the Flyers were declared the winners as they had a higher goal-average win.
