The statement by Mr. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour today on ships leaving Nigeria empty is not a factual assertion. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour is confusing his opinions for the facts. I will now present the facts below for those misled, misinformed and misdirected by Mr. Rhodes-Vivour.

First of all, Nigerian exports have almost doubled under the Tinubu administration. Please fact-check me: Nigeria set a record of $4.58 billion in non-oil exports in 2023, a 28.04% increase from the previous year.

As a nation, we are set to break that record in 2024, as the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics revealed that by the half-year 2024, Nigeria had made $2.7 Billion in non-oil exports. This is already a new H1 record.

Nigeria is now at the point where Vietnam was, where devaluation made exports more attractive and cost-effective, leading to the record ₦14.07 trillion trade surplus we achieved by half year 2024.

To give some perspective, in 2016, Nigeria's total non-oil exports were $1.4 billion. In 2024, we are making that in just one quarter.

Nigeria also had a trade deficit in the first year of Buhari (2016), with total imports at ₦8.527 trillion and total exports at ₦8.817 trillion, leaving a deficit of ₦290.1 billion.

But in the first and second years of the Tinubu administration, we are witnessing record-breaking trade surpluses.

Is Mr. Rhodes-Vivour aware that Nigeria now exports cement to Europe? Oh yes. You heard me right! Please fact-check me, and if I am lying, you will get an automatic $500.

Not only have our exports increased, but our imports have reduced by more than 50%. Especially petrol. Nigeria's fuel imports have decreased exponentially since President Bola Tinubu implemented fuel subsidy removal
on May 2023, which is why our foreign reserves hit a record high of $40.2 billion in October 2024.

If Mr. Rhodes-Vivour is unaware of these facts, he should take time to educate himself rather than push a fallacious agenda on Nigerians.
