I think God of War Laufey is coming much sooner than people expect:
• 20 minutes of polished gameplay
• Multiple interviews
•Marketing already ramping up
•PlayStation Twitter changed its header to Laufey artwork
•Rumors point to a first-half 2027 release
Honestly, I wouldn’t be shocked if it launches early next year.
the fact that this is the longest QTE in the franchise means that this is literally the hardest thing Kratos has ever done
easily the greatest QTE in gaming history
There’s a good middle ground where they don’t have to be overdone but still not feel cheap in their design and I feel like these are some good examples that do well at portraying that:
Sony just greenlit 24 Jump Street, a sequel that got killed 12 years ago by a cyberattack. The franchise grossed $534M worldwide on about $92M in combined production costs, and still spent a decade in development limbo.
The two originals are among the cleanest financial returns in modern studio comedy. 21 Jump Street (2012) cost $42M and made $201M globally. The 2014 sequel made $331M. Its $60M opening weekend was the second-highest R-rated comedy debut ever, behind only The Hangover Part II. Deadline reported both Hill and Tatum had 6% gross participation deals on that second film, meaning their paychecks scaled directly with box office performance. Numbers like those don't disappear from a studio's spreadsheet.
After 22 Jump Street, Sony immediately started developing a third film. The plan, exposed through the November 2014 Sony hack, was a crossover with Men in Black, titled MIB 23. Once the concept became public before it was ready, it collapsed. Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the directors behind both films, moved to a Star Wars project. Director James Bobin, who had been attached to MIB 23, also left. Men in Black International then opened in 2019 to just $253M worldwide against a $110M production budget. When marketing costs are factored in, the film lost money. The crossover idea was finished.
Sony then tried a female-led spinoff, cycling through Tiffany Haddish and then Brie Larson. That version also stalled. As recently as October 2025, Tatum told reporters he didn't believe a third film would ever happen.
The 24 in the title is a continuation of the franchise's own joke. The famous end-credits sequence in 22 Jump Street imagined Schmidt and Jenko across dozens of future missions, implying 23 happened offscreen, so Sony started at 24. Rodney Rothman, who co-directed Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, will direct from a script he wrote with Hill and Meghan Malloy. Phil Lord and Chris Miller return as producers, not directors. Tatum hasn't signed yet.
Sony is betting $534M in audience goodwill can survive a 12-year wait. By the numbers, it's the most defensible bet the studio has made since the hack.
If the number of Dalmatians purchased after 101 Dalmatians and clownfish purchased after Finding Nemo is any indication, the fact that Scooby doesn’t have docked ears is SO important, you guys.
He’s beautiful, and I hope they just let him have his natural ears.
