Here is why Meenakshi Natarajan chose not to disclose the Telangana case in her affidavit despite being given an opportunity to do so.

The facts are straightforward. A local Mahila Congress leader filed a sexual abuse complaint against her. When no action was taken by the police and no FIR was registered, the complainant approached the court directly. Upon examining the complaint, the court issued summons to Meenakshi Natarajan.

This also answers the oft-repeated defence that there was “no FIR”. An FIR can only be registered by the police. Where the police fail to act, the law provides an alternative remedy through the courts. A court-issued summons is not a trivial matter; it signifies that the court found sufficient grounds to proceed.

The real question, therefore, is not why there was no FIR. The question is: why did Meenakshi Natarajan not disclose the court summons and the pending proceedings in her affidavit, despite being given an opportunity to do so?

While the loss of Indian lives is a huge concern, its worth looking closely at the circumstances of the attacks on each of the 3 vessels which have been targeted in the Strait of Hormuz:

✴️The area is currently an active conflict zone with ongoing hostilities and heightened tensions.
✴️An armed naval blockade has been put in place to restrict and control all maritime movement in the region.
✴️Ships attempting to run past this blockade face real and serious danger from enforcement actions by naval forces.
✴️Despite these clear risks, the three ships still chose to evade and slip past the blockade.
✴️All three ships deliberately switched off their AIS systems to avoid detection by tracking authorities and other vessels— This is against standard international shipping protocols and safety rules.
✴️All three vessels involved are foreign-flagged ships operating under non-Indian registries.
✴️In the meanwhile, I am told 13 Indian-flagged ships continue to be stationed in the Persian Gulf. These appear to understand and respect the danger at hand. ✴️11 Indian ships returned home after they received proper clearance to depart safely.

Should Jawaharlal Nehru be credited

NO.

Should PM Modi be credited with setting up seven new IITs, taking the total to 23?

YES.

Nehru did not ‘create’ IITs. Nor did he set up India’s first IIT.

Dr BC Roy, CM of West Bengal, set up India’s first IIT in Calcutta in 1950; it later moved to Kharagpur on land owned by West Bengal Government.

IIT Kharagpur Act came six years later in 1956.

Soviet Union set up IIT Powai; US set up IIT Kanpur; West Germany set up IIT Madras (all of them with trade surplus and aid).

The idea of setting up Indian institutes of technology took shape in 1946 with Humayun Kabir leading the way and Nalini Ranjan Sarkar Committee preparing a report. Extant records do not mention any role played by Nehru.

So,

Why was the first IIT set up in #WestBengal ?

Because in 1950s West Bengal had the highest concentration of industry in #India.

What went wrong?

Nehru's Freight Equalisation Policy killed industry in West Bengal and all of east India. West Bengal became the 'Disinherited State'.
