Knights lose a real heartbreaker at home tonight in the First Round of the CIF-SJS Boys Division 4 bracket; the Knights were clinging to a 62-60 lead with under 25 seconds left to go before Union Mine HS worked the clock on their last possession then connected on a contested 3FG from the right wing to take the lead at 63-62 w/ only 2.5 seconds left to play; Knights called timeout & still had 1 final chance to win but could not get off a shot; Knights fell behind midway thru the 1Q at 16-8 but eventually tied the game at 18-18 early into the 2Q; Union Mine responded and took a 35-27 lead into halftime; the Knights biggest deficit was 10 points early in the 3Q before they used a 9-0 run fueled by Jake Vander Veen’s back to back 3FG’s to draw the Knights within 1 point at 38-37; Knights completed the comeback at 41-41 on a Chase Bunnell putback w/ 2:03 left in the 3Q; it was back & forth until midway thru the 4Q when the Knights took their largest lead of the night at 54-49 on a steal & breakaway layup by Amos Cady and again at 61-57 on a Bunnell layin with under 2 minutes to play; Union Mine roared back with 3FG’s on their last 2 possessions under 2 minutes to play including a banked in 3FG shot to draw within 1 point at 61-60 with only 35 seconds left to play; Jake Vander Veen was fouled then made 1 of 2 FT’s to put the Knights ahead at 62-60 w/ 0:23 left to play before the final possession for Union Mine ended with the game winner with only 2.5 seconds left; Knights season ends at 18-11 overall

Knights win an absolute thriller at home on Senior Night to capture the Trans Valley League title 🏆 for a 6️⃣th season in a row; Knights repel a furious 4Q comeback by the visitors & defeat 2nd place Sonora HS to win the outright league championship; Knights played spectacularly in the 1H while building a 31-20 lead at halftime behind PG Amos Cady’s 15 first-half points en route to his 21 points in the game; SG Jake Vander Veen then did the heavy lifting down the stretch by scoring 11 in the 4Q to keep the Knights in the lead until Sonora HS completed the comeback and tied the game up at 62-62 w/ only 26 seconds left to play; on the Knights final possession Vander Veen drove to the basket & was fouled then hit the 2nd of 2 FT’s for the final margin of victory; Sonora HS had 1 last chance for the win but a layup attempt rolled off the rim as time expired; Knights were led in the win by Jake Vander Veen’s 23 points; Knights finish the regular season at 11-1 in the TVL & 18-10 overall; Knights win their 6️⃣th league 🏆 title in a row and will await the @cifsjs D4 playoff pairings that are released tomorrow
