It’s past midnight in a quiet apartment block. Neighbors have already complained several times about loud music coming from one unit. That night, after drinking heavily, the woman inside storms onto her balcony, furious about the complaints. In a reckless attempt to “make a statement,” she fires several shots into the sky. The music stops, but now sirens replace it. Firing a weapon, even into the air, is never harmless. Bullets come down somewhere, and what starts as a neighborhood annoyance can escalate into criminal charges or tragedy. Conflicts over noise should end with conversation or mediation, not with gunfire. Some reactions cost far more than the original complaint.
