the pandemic has highlighted countless systemic inequities. in a blue state with a “democratic” mayor, my students are still left behind. mass collective action is the only way forward, and i am PROUD to be a teacher and @CTULocal1 member. #endofthethread#makeitmakesense
hey, educator friends! tweeting live here from chicago, where ALL CPS TEACHERS have been locked out of their accounts, rendering us unable to provide remote instruction. i’m going to do a quick #chicagoed thread to give you all some context on the situation…
meanwhile, CPS is 90% students of color. the school i work at on the southwest side is 99% students of color and 93% low income. lightfoot loves to talk about “learning loss” and “equity” - how dare you deny my students access to a free, high quality, SAFE public education?
Every teacher was a student once. Students of color are not likely to return to school to become teachers of color if they did not have a positive experience in school the first time around. The recruitment pipeline starts in math class not at the career fair. #octmchat
@MsB_MEd@ncte@ProjectLITComm i’m sure this has been said, but my kids LOVED Friday Night Lights. possibly pair with segments of the new Netflix show Cheer for a deep an evolved look at gender in sports/Texas values.
hey, #ncte and #eloned.... looking for a book for eng 2 (american lit) written from a non white perpsective and published between 1920-1960. latinx authors preferred but not required! #thanks 🥰
Arturo recited the pledge of allegiance at my inauguration. He was a star then, and he's a star now. I am thrilled that he'll be continuing his education in Chicago, and I can't wait to see what he does. Congrats on this incredible achievement, Arturo! https://t.co/JpTNvQsXkh
“It’s hard for me to say that. How about I give you a nickname?”
No.
Ask your students how to pronounce their name correctly, practice it as much as you need to, then say it correctly.
