Plenty of people, including me, have been talking about the seriousness of domestic violence for a long time & nothing is being done.

The death toll of women from domestic violence this year is now 58. If you are not shocked by that - you should be.

The media are not picking it up because it’s obviously not as important as the next Dutton sound bite or another rape trial where the victim is vilified via the media 24/7.

The media themselves are partially responsible for public apathy towards something that should be classified as a national crisis.

Women are being abused, raped, assaulted and murdered - and the sympathetic undertones for the perpetrator are sickening. So what if they were under stress or had a hard life. So what if they led decent lives and achieved good things?

None of that matters. Until the media and the general public wake up to the fact that this behaviour is being normalised - nothing will change.

Abusing, assaulting, raping and murdering women is NOT normal. And at a rate of more than ONE death a WEEK in this country - it is NOT going away. It is escalating.

Action is needed. NOW. Or women will continue to die.
