24 reported cases of illness in dogs
7 have died
1 is currently hospitalized.
The cases have been reported over 2 distinct periods of time:
1st cluster of 5 cases of which 1 died – 6/16-6/25
2nd cluster of 19 cases so far of which 6 deaths so far – 7/19-current
The symptoms exhibited by the dogs have been non-specific gastrointestinal and neurologic symptoms.
The common factor among cases is having been in the Venice Canals area.
There is no clear indication of the source of illness at this time.
No human illness has been detected.
A specialty lab at UC Davis has been identified to perform testing on samples from ill dogs
The State Water Board has taken water samples for testing – results are pending
