Bulan is Pagi’s older sister. She loves tearing up logs and foraging for food. She’s not afraid to destroy something if there’s a treat in it…if the keepers find something broken on the sun bear habitat, they assume it was Bulan who did it!

Well high there! We’re thrilled to welcome a new 13-month-old male giraffe to our herd.

This 10-foot tall guy traveled in a specially-designed trailer from @AudubonNature in Louisiana, and arrived safely to Oakland Zoo Tuesday night. He comes to us as part of the AZA Species Survival Program (SSP) to help ensure the sustainability of a healthy, genetically diverse giraffe population.

And here’s the most exciting part — you can help us give him a name! Vote on your favorite name from the list below in the comments. We’ll announce the winning name on Monday.

Last winter the Zoo experienced significant damage after storms caused flooding, toppled trees and a collapsed culvert. Luckily, the community stepped up to support us.

Thanks to major support from the Bardell Family Foundation, we just re-opened access to the newly named and expanded W.G. McCarthy Lion Deck, after a year-long closure.

Once again you can watch our African lions roam their expansive habitat. CATch the new view on your next visit!
