Two years on…
Two years ago today I was diagnosed with MND. As far as statistics are concerned, I had a 50% chance of living up to this point but I am still here and despite the complete decline in my physical body, I am pleased to be here. I wrote a poem last year to mark the first year after my diagnosis and so I thought I would do the same thing this year. I will keep going every year I can.
P.S. It’s coming home 😁

Sophia would be lost without them and I support their action to strike 100%! They go above and beyond every day for her and put up with behaviours and difficulties that few others would! Going on strike to get a decent wage says it all! @NAHTnews@NASUWT_NI@UTU_edu
As a parent of a special needs child I understand the frustration of other parents whose children will not be in school because of the upcoming strikes. However, these staff are amazing people, who do so much more than their lowly wage pays them for!
NI teachers would much prefer to be in a classroom today. Instead we stand up and stand united to protect the future of those we teach. It’s time the profession was given the respect and resources it deserves. It’s simple, as a country we either care for our children or we don’t.
No teacher wants to be standing on a picket line, but here we are, enough is enough. Our schools and support services demand significant investment and pay parity.

To raise awareness of the impacts of bullying during Anti-Bullying Week 2023, Year 9 and 10 have recorded this poem.
We would love you to share this so that others can also hear its important message. Together, we can put an end to bullying.
Every time I see the stark figures of the pay disparity between teachers in NI & the rest of the UK my blood boils a little bit more.
This isn't teachers versus schools. This is teachers in NI wanting equal pay. 24k starting salary? It's laughable. https://t.co/LgF189h91W
Education is what happens when a teacher stands in front of students and teaches. Everyone and everything else is there to help, support and enable that to happen. Teachers should be the last thing that is unaffordable in an education system, not the first.
"The Finnish Education System is the best in the world." - Everyone
"I can explain exactly why that is." - No one.
Well, what if I could tell you exactly why? It'd be worth at least 2 minutes of your time.

The @stranbelfast@StranCreu research team are looking forward to this @TTRadioOfficial podcast about the @safeguardingni research study we published recently on 'Growing Up Online'. Listen live on Thursday 12th at 9pm.
When coaching children we must continuously strive to move away from linear drills & over instruction.
And embrace a games based environment of problem solving, critical thinking & decision making.
Given the opportunity, they will find the answers. Set it up & let them play.
I get this a lot: "At what age do we get serious?"
-There is no age
-Everyone develops differently
-Some earlier than others
-Some later that others
-Some at u10, others by u12
-Some at u17, others at 20
Retain as many as possible for as long as possible
That's success
