@cordeliajensen@Bored_Teachers @LaurieLMorrison @abramskids To all my friends who are middle school teachers and parents. Every Shining Thing is wonderful. One of the few books I read in one sitting. Easy flow from episode to episode. Lovable characters with realistic flaws that middle school readers can connect to.
Do you have a #versnovel#WIP? I will be teaching Creating an Image System for Your Verse Novel again this fall for @HighlightsFound! More info here: https://t.co/MMA0vr8el1
My writing angels are smiling. I have started and stopped a novel so many times, BUT thanks to @cordeliajensen I have a completed manuscript of a middle grade ghost story. Getting it published is another story. But you can't publish half of a book, can you?
So much fun with #engagecobb this morning! I will have Padlet link to share at 12:10 session. Thanks for being an awesome audience ti kickoff this beautiful day!
Today we slayed ELA again with @read2bfreeB capsule strategy. We used the words from our capsule to find the main topic with supporting details!! @HopeBellePayne1
Before labeling kids as struggling readers, keep in mind what @KyleneBeers shares in When Kids Can't Read. "Anyone can struggle given the right text. The struggle isn't the issue; the issue is what the reader does when the text gets tough."
Do not get lost in a sea of despair. Do not become bitter or hostile. Be hopeful, be optimistic. Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble. We will find a way to make a way out of no way. #goodtrouble
I want readers to make a connection to their own lives. I want them to hear familiar voices, recognize familiar experiences. If I laughed and cried when I wrote it, I want them to laugh and cry when they read it.
