#ReadFiftyTwo this week I have been mostly reading Sovietistan by the amazing Erika Fatland, an eye popping account of the former Soviet Republics of Central Asia, (kindle no pic) and a Pocket Guide to Bumblebees, one of the drawings from which, by the author, I am lucky to own.

@ReadFiftyTwo This wonderful novel is my third book of 2023. The title character is a not-quite-star of stage and screen in the post-war era. The first-person narrator is her daughter, and the story is told with both honesty and relish. Enright’s use of language is fabulous.

Man with a Blue Scarf by Martin Gayford - was fascinating, a joy to read. Never really had such a clear insight into the process of portrait painting, Freud's approach. Great book. And this is my 2/52. A little behind but at least I am reading! How are you getting on?

Cloven Country by Jeremy Harte (2022) 295pp
A joyfully written book, imparting examples of myth, folklore, ballads, superstitions ~ "lore of uncanny places".
Little by way of Victorian Satanic horror, more fable and archaic magik of olde England.

How are you all doing with book 1/52. Im just finishing mine in an airport lounge. So far, it has been a joy to read. Amy Jeffs tells stories so clearly and concisely without losing the magic of the myths she's retelling.

Starting a new year of reading. First out is The Third World War - The Untold Story by Hackett. Not for everyone but excellent for the target audience. 1 down, 51 to go.
